Biography

While at OSU, Greg Nesbitt was in the Navy ROTC program then served with the U.S. Navy for three years. From 1961 to 1980, he worked for San Diego Gas and Electric Company, where he was involved with the design, construction, and operation of steam power plants, development of geothermal power, seawater desalination, interconnection of electric transmission systems, and development of coal fired generation in Arizona and Utah. In 1980, he accepted a position as senior vice president of bulk power supply at Central Louisiana Electric Corporation. In 1993, he was elected president and CEO and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2000. During his term as CEO, market competition was introduced to U.S. wholesale power markets for the first time (previously, regulators set wholesale power prices). Nesbitt’s biggest challenge was guiding the company through this transition. He served a term on the Research Advisory Committee of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and a term as president of Southwest Power Pool, representing that organization for six years on the board of the North American Electric Reliability Council.
